Blue Ridge
In Blue Ridge, Georgia a new thing is happening....a small group is gathering in a hotel meeting room on Sunday afternoons to fellowship, pray and learn from the Word of God. Although to an outsider, the group of 6 appears to be similar in background, the array of unique characteristics represented creates an interesting stew of personalities and perspectives. And, while only one of the gathering is a Fannin County native, each of them has a vision and commitment to offer themselves to the Lord, in line with Romans 12:1-2, to establish another gospel-gripped, worshiping fellowship of Christian believers in the Blue Ridge area.
Fannin County was once an isolated Appalachian community where most of the residents depended on logging and mining jobs for support. Nearly all of the churches were small with membership centered on family ties. Since the construction of GA Hwy 515, tourism has become a major part of the local community and, in the last 5 years, the development of a second-home real estate market has brought an influx of a new inhabitants. These newcomers are generally from metro Atlanta and Florida and bring with them a wide diversity of beliefs and status. There are now churches of denominations here not usually found in the rural south, such as Lutheran, Episcopalian, Presbyterian (USA) and Catholic.
Thank you to CVPC for allowing us to start this church planting project and thank you so very much for sending us such wonderful Bible teachers to lead us. We have been meeting since October, 2007 and have had a few one-time visitors. We are currently beginning a postcard campaign as an outreach to people we already know. Looking toward the future, we covet your prayers for:
Our group of six: James and Paula, Sue and her son, Matthew, and Tim and Debbie.
Please pray that each of us would live lives beyond reproach in honor of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Pray for our teachers...for their safety as they travel here each week and that they would sense the Lord's pleasure in their obedience.
Please especially pray for the citizens of Blue Ridge...that those who are called to be part of this fellowship would be obedient and that we would be used of the Lord to be blessings of his Grace and Peace in Christ for Blue Ridge, Fannin County and even the nations.
